Woodside Bed and Breakfast Scotland

Hills and Lochs of Scotland

Aberfeldy, Wades Bridge, Castle Menzies, Loch Tummel, Queens View, Hydro-Electric Dam at Loch Faskally, Loch of Lowes, Beech Hedges

Take the A9 North 17 miles and take the A827 to Aberfeldy. Before coming to Aberfeldy, take the road to Strathtay and Weem - pass some large Victorian Mansions (built as 'Scottish Retreats' by Industrialists). At Weem, turn left to Aberfeldy and go over the famous Wades Bridge. Have a look around Aberfeldy - a picturesque small highland town (it has a Tourist Information Office). Leave by going back over Wades Bridge and take the B846 over to Tummel Bridge - Castle Menzies

Travelling towards Pitlochry on Loch Tummel side, stop at Queen's View. At Pitlochry the Dam at Loch Faskally with the Salmon Ladder is very interesting.

Travel down the A9 into Dunkeld - take the A923 to Blairgowrie - 2 miles East of Dunkeld - visit Loch of Lowes - perhaps see some Ospreys. There is no admission charge to use the observation hide and binoculars, and there is always someone there to answer any questions. A pretty drive from here over to Blairgowrie - there turn right onto A93 Perth road and in 4 miles you will see - on the right - tall Beech Hedges

The Meikleour Beech Hedge (pictured above) was planted in 1746. Now 600 yards long and 110 feet high - the highest of its kind in the world. South of the Hedges take the right turn to Kinclaven, Stanley, and go over another lovely Tay Bridge.

Return to Tophead via Stanley. Turn right at the cross roads over to the A9 and Tophead.
